One of the biggest issues with trying to eat healthy is the pricey foods that come with it. I’ve noticed that when I am grocery shopping, it is easier AND cheaper to buy pantry, junk food. When I buy healthy food, my grocery list is shorter but also $50 more. In reality, healthy food isn’t “too expensive”, I just don’t know how to shop for healthy foods. Below I will talk about some tips to save money while trying to eat healthy.
Research
This is one of the biggest issues with grocery shopping, we tend to go in blindly. Research the fruits and vegetables that are in season during that time. Fruits and Veggies cost more when they are not in season, so try to buy the ones that are in season to save money.
Plan Your meals
Planning is essential to saving money. Plan meals that you can use the same ingredients so you are not spending money on an ingredient and never using it again.
STICK TO YOUR GROCERY LIST
This is one of the hardest for me. STICK TO YOUR GROCERY LIST. I know the food looks good and there is always a new snack that comes out, but again, STICK TO YOUR GROCERY LIST.
Coupons or Loyalty Programs
When grocery stores ask for you to sign up for their loyalty program, they don’t just want your email to bother you. You can save so much money from loyalty programs and couponing.
Here is a website for loyalty programs for almost every grocery store. https://moneypantry.com/grocery-rewards-programs/
Buy whole foods
Do not buy pre-cut or pre-chopped or pre-made. Whole foods are much cheaper and only take a few minutes of extra prepping
Cook large portions
Cooking large portions of your favorite meals is a 100% YES! It saves you money and time.
WATER
I cannot stress enough, just drink water. Water is SO GOOD for you. Water will save you so much money if you stop buying bulks of sodas.
